On April 6, at 4 p.m., the museum on the street I.Franka, 154, will open the Easter exhibition “And he rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.”

It will display household icons of Bukovyna, Hutsul Oblast and Pokuttia, painted by folk masters in the 19th century, cheese figurines, a paskovnik and Easter eggs from the last quarter of the 20th century, which are part of the collection of folk and sacred art of the Lviv collector, member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, co-founder of the Institute of Ukrainian Collectors of art monuments at the National Academy of Sciences in Lviv, director of the UKU Museum Andriy Tsybka.

The most interesting exhibits of the exhibition are icons on glass. In the 19th century, in the countries belonging to the Carpathian region (Romania, Slovakia, Poland), on the basis of local folk icon painting on wood, the icon on glass became an original and vivid form of folk art. It was at this time that the icon on the glass flooded the Carpathian regions of Ukraine – Pokuttia, Hutsulshchyna, Bukovyna. A comparative analysis of artistic and stylistic signs of icon painting on glass in the named territories of Eastern Europe convincingly proves that in each of the ethnographic regions icons were painted by local folk masters.

The collection was created during the 80s and 90s of the last century, looking for exhibits during the expeditions of friends-collectors: Taras Lozynskyi, Yuriy Yurkevich, Lubomir Yaremchuk and Andriy Tsybko.
