Brand history

The Macallan factory is based on a picturesque hill overlooking the River Spey. In the 17th century, a small farm was located on this site, where whiskey was secretly produced. It was this production that was one of the first to enter the legal field, it happened in 1824. After that, the distillery changed owners several times, until at the end of the 19th century it was owned by Roderick Kemp, who turned out to be a really talented businessman. He managed to put the production on its feet and form the foundation of the future brand.

A unique style of whiskey

Macallan whiskey is an alcohol with a special character, which the owners emphasize with the name itself. Initially, the company existed under the name Macallan, but later they decided to add the article The – which emphasizes the uniqueness of this drink. And we can say that this is not an empty marketing ploy.

The Macallan is a really unusual whiskey, and here’s why:

Special small cubes are used for its production, which are not used in other distilleries of this region.
Spirits are aged exclusively in sherry barrels, which provide the necessary color of the drink without additives.

For a long time, the distillery created single malt spirits exclusively for various blended whiskeys. And only in the 60s of the last century, The Macallan began to be sold as an independent drink.

Today, the line of this brand is represented by several drinks. The youngest scotches are aged for 7 years and are delivered to the Italian market. The main collection is represented by tapes aged from 10 to 25 years. Also, in the cellars of the distillery you can find more mature exclusive spirits, which were bottled back in the 50s and 60s of the last century.
